The Shelton Ray Band was formed in 2011, with the mission of interpreting great songs from the 1960’s through today. Blues/Rock/Pop genres done their own way; true to the original intent, but with particular attention to the vocal arrangements.  Their style incorporates tight 3 and 4 part harmonies, with Shelton’s great voice leading the way. Band members are:

Shelton Ray (lead vocals) - originally from Nashville, TN, and a veteran of quite a few Austin bands as a lead singer and a back-up singer.  She possesses a rare voice, capable of singing the blues as few can, but also able to tear into a rock song, or give a delicate folk/country/jazz song the sweet nuances it needs.  Her vision of an exceptional vocal band is achieved through her direction.

Kyle Bengtson (vocals, guitars) - an amazing guitarist from right here in Austin. He has played in many well-known Austin groups over the years, including Crystal Image and The StingRays.  Kyle also provides the lead vocals to some song selections.

Jay McCoy (vocals, guitar) - also a veteran of many Austin bands, including Rabbit, Crystal Image, and The StingRays with Shelton and Kyle.  His guitar playing prowess includes the sweet sound of slide guitar.  Like Kyle, Jay is a native Austinite, and the two of them both took lessons as kids from the legendary teacher, Wayne Wood.

Jay Henderson (vocals, percussion) - a fantastic drummer, but, in this format, Jay plays a wooden percussion instrument referred to as “the box”.  It simulates the sounds of a snare and bass drum, allowing the band to play all types of music convincingly without the high volume of a regular drum kit and cymbals.  Jay is called “Jaybird”, a nickname he’s had since childhood, when he and Jay McCoy (Jmac) played together.

George Anderson (bass) - the newest member of the Shelton Ray Band, but is not new to the guys in the band.  George laid down his rock steady grooves in Austin bands Kikker and Raven, along with Jay Henderson and Jay McCoy, and has played in quite a few of Austin's better known bands, notably the Ray Holland Band.  George is a native Austinite, and a graduate of McCallum High School, along with the two Jay's.
